A: A 0-10V dimming system consists of four main components: a dimmer, a power supply, an LED driver, and an LED fixture. The dimmer is a device that sends a low-voltage signal (between 0 and 10 volts) to the LED driver, which controls the brightness of the LED fixture.

Q: How many lights can a 0-10V dimmer handle?

A: 0-10V systems can easily handle thousands of watts on a single switch. So, for example, if you have 20 LED high bay fixtures running at 100 watts each, you could in theory control them on one switch (although we recommend you use more).

Q: What usually fails LED driver?

A: Overheating is a common reason for sudden shutdowns in LED systems. If an LED driver overheats, it may temporarily cut off power to prevent damage. Alternatively, component failures within the driver can also lead to abrupt shutdowns as the driver fails to sustain the necessary power output.

Q: Does 0-10V dimming wire need to be shielded?

A: The separation is critical because higher-voltage wiring can induce alternating current voltage into lower- voltage signal wiring, causing the lighting to produce undesirable effects and safety issues. 0-10v wire running parallel to power cables for a fair distance would need to be shielded.

Q: Can LED driver be too powerful?

A: LED light output is proportional to its current supply, and LEDs are rated to operate within a certain current range. Therefore, too much or too little current can cause light output to vary or degrade more quickly due to higher temperatures within the LED, or thermal runaway.

A: A LED driver automatically switches off if the load on a single line exceeds the amount indicated.
